The Art School Alliance (ASA) promotes international exchange and networking among young artists around the world. The aim is to strengthen international artistic practice, the development of artistic projects with diverse perspectives and influences and personal encounters and experiences in an international context.

The Art School Alliance is an initiative of the HFBK Hamburg and the Alfred Toepfer Stiftung F.V.S..

Student exchange

ASA supports student exchanges with 13 of the world's most renowned art academies. Twice a year, up to 13 HFBK students are selected from a university-wide application process to spend an exchange semester at an ASA partner university with a generous ASA scholarship and free tuition fees. Students enrolled at the HFBK Hamburg can find information about the program and how to apply for an ASA scholarship here.

Up to 13 art students from ASA partner universities worldwide come to study at the HFBK Hamburg every semester. They live and work free of rent and tuition fees in the spacious ASA residence in the center of Hamburg, can use all HFBK facilities and events and also take part in the Open Studios of the Art School Alliance and exclusive tutorials by HFBK professors. Students of the ASA partner universities can find information about their stay in Hamburg here.

Academic achievements are certified and mutually recognized by the participating institutions. The ASA scholarship holders of the HFBK Hamburg become “buddies” for an ASA incoming before their exchange semester, so that the exchange already begins in Hamburg, not least with joint participation in the Open Studios of the Art School Alliance.
